The Intersection at
Valmont
A Family Based Youth Ministry
Goals of The Intersection:
- To help parents navigate unfamiliar waters of modern youth culture.
- To facilitate the teen's personal growth into Christian maturity.
- To equip the church for worship and ministry .
How The Intersection works:
Planned events:
Depending on the activity, planned events may be parent-teen, teens-only, or
parents-only. Some may be educational, some just for fun, some both. For
example:
- Teens-only events may be: the "Block Party" with other youth
groups; a class on "Understanding Your Parents"; or "Drug/Sex/Alcohol
Avoidance Skills."
- Parents-only could include : "Conflict Management At Home; Building
Faith In Your Family; "What's Hot; What's Not" (Panel of visiting teens.)
- Parent-Teen events could be: "How to Fight Fair" workshop; attend a
movie and have dinner together; play "On the Nose" (like "Newlywed Game"); do
CROP Walk"; go to Water World together.
Developing relationships:
- Between parent and child.
- Between teens and adult mentors at Valmont.
- Teens learn the church takes them seriously & there is a real place
for them in the life of the church.
- Teens will see firsthand a model of one who lives their faith, as a
journey in the real world, dealing with every-day issues.
